Mindfulness refers to the practice of bringing gentle awareness to what is going on within and around you, in the present moment, in a non-judgemental way.

Research shows both our physical and mental health is improved substantially by practising mindfulness. These benefits are increased even further by being outside in a natural environment. In Japan the practice of Shinrin yoku (taking in the forest atmosphere or “forest bathing” as we have named it here) has seen a huge increase in popularity.  Scientific studies have confirmed what many have known for some time: that being in the forest lowers our stress levels and increases our feelings of well-being.

Mindfulness can be practised through a variety of techniques and exercises. In nature we are provided with the ideal setting for exploring the sights, sounds and smells of the natural world, allowing us to unplug and take some time out to nurture ourselves and to relax. We can bring our focus to the sound of the birds, the wind in the trees, the smell and sounds of the fire, the lap of the tide, the gentle flow of breath.

Elemental Adventures applies the principles of mindfulness to the outdoors. We use the surroundings of woodlands, meadows and beaches as the ideal setting for Mindfulness in Nature, helping you to have a deeper sense of connection with yourself and your surroundings.

We will guide you through a variety of activities, such as gentle movement, walking and breathing exercises, as well as mindfully drinking a cup of campfire tea!
